Bathco and Metsol Partner with Alucam, Targeting a Reduction of up to 1 Million Tons of CO2e Emissions per Year, Increasing the Valuable Green Aluminium Available for Europe and the World

[Zurich, Switzerland / Douala, Cameroon] — In a landmark initiative poised to transform the sustainability landscape of the Aluminium industry, Bathco, in collaboration with its technology arm, Metsol, is thrilled to announce the commencement of a multi-year partnership with Alucam, Cameroon’s sole Aluminium smelter. Through this collaboration, Bathco will finance the integration of the APC+, a next-generation, smart Pot Control System at Alucam, designed to enhance current efficiency, reduce power consumption, and increase operational stability. At full capacity of the smelter, this advanced technology could save as much as 1 million tons of CO2e emissions annually. This collaboration laid the groundwork for Bathco to partner with Alucam, securing a significant share of the company’s metal production. This crucial investment not only propels operational efficiency and environmental sustainability forward but also aligns with the increasing worldwide demand for Green Aluminium. Acquiring a substantial portion of Alucam’s anticipated Green Aluminium reaffirms Bathco’s dedication to advancing the production and availability of sustainable Aluminium on a global scale.

Metsol will implement its APC+ system to elevate Alucam’s production processes to the highest sustainability and efficiency standards and enable the smelter to return to full capacity utilization by the end of 2025. Notably, Alucam’s upgrade of its operation, powered by hydro energy, is a testament to its commitment to Green Aluminium production, positioning it to supply the growing global demand for Aluminium produced with renewable energy, and places it into the group of smelters with the lowest carbon footprint per ton of metal.
